Kirsten Jones
Kirsten is inspired by 'collections' of treasured objects and their remembered or imagined histories. Each piece has a subtle narrative, which she creates by collaging vintage envelopes, stamps, dictionary text andmaps. These clues evoke memories of the places objects were found or bought. Once the collage stage is complete, kirsten paints overthe richly layered surface using gesso, inks and washes of acrylic paint.Recent works include The Garden paintings where tall flowers and plants arecombined with garden text and the 'Collected Treasures' series, where antiquecrockery studies are overlaid on fragments of 1937 mystery stories about atreasure hunt and a lost Chinese vase.
Kirsten Jones was born in Hartlepool in 1968 and grew upon the island of Jersey before gaining a B.A. Hons Fine Art Degree in NewcastleUpon Tyne, she travelled throughout the world, to places such as China, Malaysia, Australia and Europe before pursuing a career in Art and eventually becoming a full-time painter.
