Christine Cummings

Christine trained in ceramics at Lancashire Polytechnic and her final show consisted purely of pig studies. The response was enthusiastic and her work was a complete sell out. At this time she imagined that this would be the beginning of a whole new world of sculptural beasts. However, several years on, she is still captivated by pigs, constantly researching them through photography and sketching.

Another animal has taken to her eye now too – goats! She finds the research both a necessary and interesting part of her work. Christine has found plenty of source material in the rare breeds owned by pig showmen, as well as having her own real life model, a pot bellied pig called Jezabel.

The animals are made in a mixture of crank bodied and stoneware clays. Raku and smoke firing finishes naturally complement the final pieces.
